"I am interested in pottery that make connections to the human figure. The figurative analogies used to describe pots throughout history all in some way invite touch. The pots that I respond to all speak of a clear, direct sense of the hand. The hand is celebrated in the work by its maker, whether it is that of a fifteenth century rural potter or a nineteenth century court artisan. And it becomes a necessary tool for the user in understanding the relationship of the object to its function, and subsequently, to how that object informs ones life.

Though most of my work only alludes to function, I use the pot context because of its immense possibilities for abstraction. The skin of the clay holds the invisible interior of the vessel. How I manipulate my forms "around" that air, constraining it, enclosing it, or letting it expand and swell, can allow analogy and metaphor to enter into the work."

My Cartrageous Sterling silver jewelry and accessories series is an outgrowth of the shopping cart furniture series I began in 2008. I am experimenting with form and playfully with movement. I enjoy taking one shape and considering what else I can do with it. Intended to be playful and fun the jewelry, like the furniture, is developed with a deeper intention. Art swirls through my blood via a long linage of acclaimed and beloved familial painters. Frequently surrounded by artists and their work my childhood was saturated with color and form and conversations about its meaning. So, in a way, art is my first language. While in the magic of the desert earning a Bachelor's of Art and immersed in formal training I dove into the joys and the techniques of printing, ceramics, sculpture and painting, graduating from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Ready for my next chapter I found I longed for my home state the ocean, and it seemed like fate to find the perfect studio on Cape Ann, Massachusetts, and so established "Art by any Means" in 1999.

Corona is part of my first Migration series. I wanted to create something that spoke directly to the heart, so I chose red. The name refers to what I believe is the heart energy responsible for glow of the soul. Ironically, she was created only a few months before the onslaught of the Corona Epidemic // Camp's work has been shown in over 100 exhibitions, including the American Craft Museum, Smithsonian, International Sculpture Center, and University of Michigan. She won a 2020 Award of Excellence at the ACC, and in 2021 the Best of Show from the Peters Valley Craft Fair. Camp had a solo exhibition at Prizm in Miami during 2022 Art Basel. Her workshops include the Baltimore Museum of Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Longwood Gardens, and Smithsonian. Her dolls have appeared in Essence, Nouvel Objet, New York Times, FiberArts, National Geographic World, the Village Voice and Smithsonian.

From Easter Island- Rapanui: Incised for Chanting Out
The ancient Easter Island glyphs carved on tablets share a mystical language. As rare
as the few remaining dozen incised wood planks, Rongorongo is one of a few
independent languages in human history and is yet to be deciphered.

The unique system of characters are incised in shallow horizontal channels. The text is read from the bottom row, left to right. Each line is reversed so one must turn the tablet 180o to chant to the next line. Although the literal translation is unknown, the spirited nature of the "chants" infuse the sculptures. Inheriting the ancestral Rongorongo mobility, many of the sculptures invert
freely into various poses as they step from 2 to 3 dimension.

The mysterious carved organic tablets liken time capsules capturing a once diverse and
abundant exchange between man and nature on this remote Pacific island. The
thriving Rapanui culture and its lush landscape fell to deforestation and devastation
leaving a profound message and crucial restoration at work today.

The color of the pit-fired ceramic Rongorongos is 100% painted by the fumes and flame
of their primitive outdoor firing, unpredictable and unique.

John Glick is known for functional, thrown, stoneware vessels with painterly surfaces. His early work reflected his Cranbrook teacher, Maija Grotell, and is characterized by simple, undecorated stoneware dinner services and functional vessels.Glick founded Plum Tree Pottery in 1964. There he produced a range of functional vessels with sophisticated painterly decoration. The surface is drawn on and painted with slips and glazes, frequently with flower and vine motifs, sometimes built up to form relief or textured underglaze surfaces, always creating the illusion of depth.

Glick is considered one of the most important functional potters of his time, not only for his body of work but also as an influential teacher and mentor. Glick introduced, to American studio potters, innovative studio practices that have been widely adopted. He worked with studio assistants, initially having them throw the desired forms or assemble the slabs of hand-built forms to his specifications. Glick concentrated on all aspects of the decoration and finishing.
